El Yunque

I captured this fine moment from the observation tower in the El Yunque rainforest of Puerto Rico, circa 2006. I think this is my favorite vacation picture of all time. My daughters roll together, their bond is my comfort zone. At peace with each other, I am at peace with myself. They need each other and will share these moments with each other when Father Time takes me down. I stood across from them and observed all the beauty of the forest's canopy and made like I was in a land before time. The green is breathtaking, the lush vegetation, the humidity. Then, I turn and capture this moment of truth between sisters. They were ready to roll out to the pool at the hotel. I hope to convey to them the significance of being themselves, the confidence to make their own decisions, the power to swim against the current if necessary. To separate right from wrong. A wise man once told me, "Always be yourself."
