Berm & Abutment

Stopped beside a random berm and looked at housing for worms.

I sit at the stop light and come to terms.

These unnoticed places that hide in front of our faces.

Places that are outcast and secluded and sometimes hide cars that are booted.

Here, in disguise, a small meadow takes flight in surprise.

This ecosystem provides critters with shelter during a summer’s swelter.

For now, the berm provides a bunny slope of snow and a glimpse of a crossroad.

A place where fledgling communities were birthed and stood ten toe.
