Eagles Green

February 6, 2023. One of my closest friends and I had a date with some beers in Philadelphia. We rode the Amtrak, we chitted and chat, we admired the conductor dinging the bell as we rolled through stops along the Mainline toward Philly. I gathered my thoughts along the way. My friend always provides great conversation. When we hit our first watering hole in Philly, my thoughts flowed onto paper. Any paper available but stopping short of toilet paper. These are my field notes:
Note 1: This is a doily. Sitting in Philly at McGillin's Olde Ale House, across from my man, who's rockin a Nick Foles jersey. Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday, my funday. Rolling Rocks and a hot crock of French Onion Soup. WAP on the jukebox, centuries olde spot, nestled in the backlot. Close to Center City, in an alley lined with Eagles green dumpsters, Drury Street welcomes food delivery trucks and beer vendors. The location gives birth to Contenders not Pretenders.
Note 2: Plough and the Stars at the Olde Corn Exchange on 2nd Street. Fireside chats, fireside pints, Southern Tier Old Man Winter Ale with an Eagles Super Bowl appearance rifting through the air. On a whim, through an Amtrak Keystone Line jaunt, the Schuylkill is alive and Tyrese Maxey needs to take flight. So he can eliminate the Sixers from choking away big leads, to overthrow bad 4th quarter turnovers and lead us to a 1983 do over. Where Dr.J and Moses Malone paid the fans in full way before payouts were ever made on Fan Duel. The game was purer, like a Guinness at the Plough and Stars. The NBA title came through L.A. and packed Philly bars. So, the streets in Old City are electrified with Eagles green, all we need now is the Sixers to live up to their Dream Team. No more turnovers, no more blown leads, in a few weeks we will where Eagles green Mardi Gras beads!
Note 3: I'm in Fishtown, not with thumbs down, but with thumbs up with the selection of the drink in my cup. I'm at Evil Genius Brewing, the L is above. Flying like an Eagle on the wing of the dove. Life is short, too short to spend time worrying about, with love in my life, I'm ahead of the game no doubt. I found a drink and a friend on a bar side chat, we don't find regrets and never a beer that's flat.
It's a Philly Thing
Sounds like a good trip! Wilbert Montgomery was my first favorite Eagle- I have an old school Kelly green #31 jersey
